Artist Statement
When I create I make to either filter ideas and emotions, or I make work to meet the needs of people.
Every situation in life demands a reaction or a conversation. Creating, for me, is a part of that reaction,
it's part of the conversation- even if it's only on my end. Peace, love, patience, joy, love, kindness- these are
what I want to end each interaction with, these are what I want my work to embody. I probably could have been
a counselor, but instead I am an artist. When I imagine people using my works, I want them to be drawn into
peace, kindness, gentleness, patience, love and joy.
I am influenced by nature, painters, music and God.
The sky always stops me- even on the most 'normal' day, I am drawn to the multiple tones of the white clouds.
When the sun is setting I stop and scream (a lot), then I turn around and search for the subtle pinks, greens and blues that are
hiding in the distant clouds and landscape across from the sunset.
Painters like Wassily Kandinsky and Helen Frankenthaler, who capture emotions through strokes and colors,
reminiscent of familiar things, yet wildly unique in their own regard, inspire me .
Musicians have the opportunity to create and remind people of moments in someones life that evokes a response from
the listener. Everything from ACDC to Nat King Cole, it's all someones response to their own life.
I don't have to create because I'd stop breathing if I didn't- that's silly. I would rather not stop, because I know that God set me down before I was born and handed me a drawing pencil. Ok, ok, I have never thought that thought before, but I do know that God made me to create. I talk to God a lot when I am making art, and He talks to me. It works out well- people most often call this prayer.
Art, for me, is prayer.
It's a filter I was born with to release what I was given.
“Refuse to be average. Let your heart soar as high as it will.”
